Julia Child is reported to have said, "I was 32 when I started cooking; up until then, I just ate." For me, I was 30. While I have always loved food, cooking was something I feared, disliked, and avoided until motherhood compelled me to overcome my feelings and, in spite of myself, I found I began to enjoy trying new recipes, creating tasty meals, and sharing them with others. These are the adventures of my learning to love something that overwhelmed and intimidated me for far too long. I hope you will enjoy (and perhaps benefit from) the tales of a reluctant cook!

Mockshake (originally posted January 22, 2014)

With quite a bit of baby weight left to lose, I’ve been trying hard to watch what I eat. Sometimes I really feel like indulging, though, and this recipe helps tend to my cravings without making me feel like I’ve completely fallen off the bandwagon. I call these mockshakes, as they’re not made with ice-cream but make a pretty darn good ice-cream milkshake substitute. The original recipe (adapted from a weelicious recipe) is for a vanilla shake, but adding some cocoa powder can give you a nice, dark chocolate taste, if that’s what you’re craving. Enjoy!

Ingredients:
2 cups milk (I use whole)
1 tablespoon agave nectar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
6 ice cubes
For a chocolate shake, add 2 T unsweetened cocoa powder (I love Trader Joe’s brand)

Preparation:
Place all ingredients in a blender and mix.
***Note: I’ve found the best consistency using a powerful, high-speed blender like a Vitamix or Blendtec
