I’ve been excited to make Cathy’s Sweet Potato Chili since she gave me the recipe (original post here: http://talesofareluctantcook.blogspot.com/2014/08/in-response-to-my-complaints-about.html).
I got all the ingredients in my most recent grocery shop, except for
one (the chipotle chili), which I special ordered from Amazon just so I
could try this recipe out.
Then last night I gathered all the ingredients together only to
realize that my chipotle chili was missing! I searched high and low and
even enlisted Mr. Pickypants in the search. We searched everywhere we
could think of for a full 45 minutes, and after I went to bed, Mr. Picky
even searched some more. But, to no avail.
Luckily, Cathy is a generous spirit, has a well-stocked spice
cabinet, and sees me late Monday mornings at our favorite exercise
class, so when I sent her a desperate-sounding message asking for some
chipotle chili, she was happy to oblige and provided me with some so
that I could make the meal today, as planned. Phew! So grateful for kind
friends.
Now, a few hours later, I am even more grateful for her kindness as I
am enjoying the fruits of my labors. I found the chili to be interesting, healthy,
satisfying, and easy (even if Mr. Pickypants didn’t jump up and down for it quite like I
did). Furthermore, I am quite certain that after the chili sits another
day and the flavors have more time to meld, I’ll like it even more (and
so will Mr. Pickypants). To my blog readers, if you’re looking to add an
interesting and easy recipe to your stock, I’d recommend trying this
one out! Thanks again, Cathy!
Julia Child is reported to have said, "I was 32 when I started cooking; up until then, I just ate." For me, I was 30. While I have always loved food, cooking was something I feared, disliked, and avoided until motherhood compelled me to overcome my feelings and, in spite of myself, I found I began to enjoy trying new recipes, creating tasty meals, and sharing them with others. These are the adventures of my learning to love something that overwhelmed and intimidated me for far too long. I hope you will enjoy (and perhaps benefit from) the tales of a reluctant cook!
